The secret of Great Retention

At ProLash Studio, our goal is to deliver the best possible results for our clients. Crafting your perfect style and providing the most comfortable experience for you is of utmost importance. We also strive to provide great value. ProLash Studio’s technique results in excellent lash extension retention, so you need to come in less often for touch ups.

We start by thoroughly cleansing your natural lashes with our top-of-the-line deep cleanser, to remove any makeup, oil, or debris from your eyelashes.

Then we use a special tool that gently removes any oily residue from hard-to-reach places like inner lash layers.

Once your eyelashes are squeaky clean, they are examined as to texture, density and health to determine how to design your style in a way that ensures zero damage to your natural eyelashes. Too much weight on an individual eyelash can damage your follicles, resulting in premature lash loss.

During application, we use the best possible adhesives on the market, and the correct amount of glue on each lash extension. Too much adhesive can create collapsed volume fans, stiff lashes, or worse, get them stuck together. Often, lashes that have way too much adhesive last longer at first, because they are cemented in a chunk on your eyes. Your full set and first fills may last an extraordinarily long time, but that will quickly fade, and you will notice you need fills at increasingly faster rates. This is because your lashes get stuck together and the faster growing ones pull out the slower growing ones which eventually leads to baldness.

The lash extension is placed just at the base of your natural eyelash, without touching the skin. This provides the best stability to the extension as it grows out, so it lasts longer without looking messy, and zero follicle damage. We also use special techniques to install the eyelash extensions such as applying pressure to the extension once it’s placed on your natural lash, and for volume fans we wrap the base of the fan to encapsulate your natural eyelash instead of just sitting on it.

After the installation process, our clients are properly educated on aftercare including cleansing instructions, and to avoid oil and alcohol-based products at all costs (on your face). We offer personalized advice and resources for our clients so you can protect your investment.

While lash extension retention cannot be predicted 100% of the time, because your own natural lash cycle and choices are a factor, we do everything possible to deliver the best retention. Our goal is to keep you happy.

Are you a Back or Side Sleeper?

If you tend to sleep on your side, you will benefit from a SILK pillowcase. The slippery fabric will not catch on your lash extensions.

Are you a full on face sleeper? You should invest in a contoured eye sleeping mask or a “bubble mask”. These masks have a 3D shape that is lifted off your eyes so you can blink freely inside, they protect, not squish your lashes!

You MUST clean your lashes minimum every two days

Even if you do not wear makeup or have particularly oily skin, cleanse your lash extensions every other day. We all produce natural oil in our lash line and eyelids. Oil degrades the adhesive! Check out this video on how to cleanse your lashes:

Speaking of Oil…

Have you ever had bubblegum stuck in your hair? What did you use to get it out? Many would say peanut butter or coconut oil. Oil eats away at the adhesive. If you use any products or makeups on your face that contain oil or oil based ingredients, you do so at risk of your lash extensions falling out prematurely.

Do you exercise often?

If you are a gym rat, invest in a sweatband! Sweat contains both oil and salts. Oil breaks down the adhesive, and salt dries out the natural lash. Whenever you do workout, OR CRY, cleanse your lashes!

Do your Eyelids Get Shiny During the Day?

Wear a mattifying eyeshadow primer in a thin layer just above your lash line. Even if you don’t wear makeup, this will act as a barrier and keep your lashes free of the natural oil your skin produces.

Is your skin oily? do you wear heavy makeup?

You need to cleanse your lashes daily, and you need a deep cleanser that cuts through oil and makeup. For dry to normal skin types, you must cleanse your lashes every two days minimum!!

So what makeup can I use?

Foundation: Must be oil free if you put it anywhere in your orbital area. That’s your eyebrow to your cheek bones. If you choose to wear oil based foundation, you must wash it off every night even if you avoid your eye area.

Under eye concealer: 100% has to be oil free and washed off every night.

Eyeshadow: Powder/pressed eyeshadow is totally fine. Creamy eyeshadow is oil based and should be avoided. You must cleanse your eyelids after using eyeshadow because the particles can build up in your lash line and trap oil and debris.

Eyeliner: Felt tipped marker eyeliner is the best. It glides on easily, stains your skin only where you put it, and doesn’t get on your lashes. Hard pencils are okay. Soft pencils are oil based and should be avoided. Liquid eyeliner can get all over your lashes and be hard to remove.

Mascara: Do not ever ever ever put mascara on your lash extensions! You will cause your remaining extensions to fall out quickly, collapse your volume fans, and create an environment very unfriendly to touch ups because it is so hard to remove from your lashes and may ruin subsequent fills.

If you’re in love with mascara, THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE: Black Tinted Sealant is 100% lash extension safe. It can help fill in gaps between appointments, wrangle overgrown extensions to look nice and straight, and add a little extra oomph to your night out look. Sealant also seals the bonds of your extensions to protect them from oil, dirt, and debris. Ask your artist about Sealant.

A NOTE ON Oil and Alchohol Based Skin Care: Eye creams or serums or other products that contain oil or alcohol should absolutely be avoided. If you must use these “NO NO” products, apply them in a thin layer, entirely avoiding your orbital area (from your brow bone to your cheekbone) and make sure they are 100% absorbed into your skin before you go to bed or apply any other products. Otherwise, product can travel to your eye area causing premature lash loss.

If you wear a mask for any reason within 24 hours after your appointment…

You must tape the top opening of your mask down to your cheek so you are not breathing hot, steamy, wet breath onto your fresh lashes. This is just like getting them wet and will ruin your retention. Tape up!!

Aftercare Products

Cleanser: We offer two different cleansers to suit your individual needs:

Gentle Foaming Lash Cleanser which is appropriate for non-oily skin types and those that do not wear heavy makeup. The foam has great scrubbing bubble action to get in between those lash layers.

Deep Cleanser has excellent properties for cutting through oil and dissolving makeup, therefore is recommended for oily skin types and heavy makeup use. We offer both cleansers in a discounted bundle, so you have two options throughout the week as even non-oily skin types will benefit from a deep cleanse once a week, or if you do not wear heavy makeup daily you have a lighter option in the gentle cleanser.

Eyelash Growth Serums: There are three types of lash serums, all made for a different purpose. The three different types are:

Serums for Lengthening are prostaglandin based. They work by causing your follicles to swell and grab hold tightly to your natural eyelash, so your lash continues to grow when it otherwise would have fallen out. This type is safe for eyelash extensions so long as it contains no alcohols or oils.

Serums for Thickening are peptide based. They work by drawing more blood flow to your follicle causing each natural eyelash to grow out thicker and healthier. This type is safe for eyelash extensions so long as it contains no alcohols or oils.

Serums for Conditioning contain vitamins and oils to nourish your lashes and prevent breakage. This conditioning type of serum is NOT recommended for use with eyelash extensions.

Serums must be used daily, with results starting to appear after 4-6 weeks, full results in 8-12 weeks. After desired results have been reached, you must continue to use serums every other day or so for maintenance.

We recommend using both Lengthening and Thickening Serums and we offer them in a discounted bundle.

YOU MUST WAIT 24 HOURS AFTER EACH APPOINTMENT BEFORE YOU APPLY YOUR SERUMS.

Sealants: Black Tinted Sealant is 100% lash extension safe. It can help fill in gaps between appointments, wrangle overgrown extensions to look nice and straight, and add a little extra oomph to your night out look. Sealant also seals the bonds of your extensions to protect them from oil, dirt, and debris.
